Artist Bio
Jonathon Lee Shannon is a New York City-based
artistoriginally from a small town in North Carolina, who
creates a contemporary style of plein-air painting throughout
the world. He moved to the city in 2018 and has been
showing his work all over the city.
Jonathon received his BFA at Savannah College of Art and
Design in 2016. He utilized the study aboard programs to
travel France and Hong Kong to expand his understanding of
art and explore new cultural experiences. Soon after he was
awarded a scholarship to a residency program at Anderson
Ranch in 2014. This is where he gained a deeper
understanding of abstract art and formulated his own concept
called Reverse Reality.
This concept is created from painting the reverse of the two
basic forms of life, organic (people and trees) and geometric
(buildings, cars, man-made objects). He paints organic forms
into flat geometric shapes and paints the geometric forms into
organic brush strokes.
His work has been collected all over the world and has been in
many solo, group shows, art fairs, auctions, and museums in
NYC, North Carolina, Savannah, Atlanta, Miami, Hong Kong,
and France. Shannon has the vision to create and exhibit his art
all over the world and inspire communities to find their
passion and voice.
