Artist Statement
My work explores the relationship between impressionism, cubism, surrealism, expressionism and abstraction. During my studies I gained inspiration from Van Gogh, Cezanne, Dali, Picasso, Matisse, De Kooning and many more. After years of painting plein-air, I noticed most environments are constructed of two basic forms, organic and geometric. From this understanding I developed a concept to see the world from an alternative perspective I call Reverse Reality.
Throughout my process I inverse the organic forms (people, trees, etc.) into simple flat geometric shapes and all geometric forms (buildings, cars, man-made objects) into organic forms, with no hard line or edge. I use art to push the boundaries of how we see life and alter the viewers’ perspective of the world.
